The Mysterious History of Voicemail

Long before answering machines and digital voicemail, there was another way to send an audio message to a long-distance loved one. As early as the 1920s, an exciting new technology became available. Gramophonic Letters. 

Meet the two enthusiasts who are preserving this little-known piece of audio history.

During WW2, over 400,000 German prisoners of war were shipped from battlefields in Europe and Africa to labor camps across rural America.
